John Krasinski Offered Fletch Role?

Man, what is up with this new Fletch movie? They’ve been talking about it for 2 or 3 years now, but it seems like that’s all they’re doing… talking. Kevin Smith was attached to the project for a long time, but eventually parted ways because the studio wouldn’t agree to cast Jason Lee in the role. Sometimes Kevin Smith is a little too stubborn when it comes to working with his friends, but I have to say I would have loved to see Lee as Fletch. At the time I kind of understood where the Weinsteins were coming from because he just wasn’t a big enough name to carry the film, but after the success of My Name is Earl, I think that situation has changed. Unfortunately now it’s too late and this movie is falling even farther from the mark. Last we heard, Zach Braff had been considered but was off the project, and now Joshua Jackson was the frontrunner for the lead role. Now The Office star John Krasinski is throwing his name into the mix, revealing that he was approached for the flick as well.

“My name was tossed around a little bit for the role, and it’s something that [I might consider]. I have no idea… I’ve been shooting a movie down in North Carolina, so I’ve kind of lost touch with who [else] is in the running… I read the script, and it is hilarious. It’s just one of those things that is so terrifying, to step up and be in a role that was done so perfectly.”

Krasinski is great on The Office, but I am still a bit unsure whether or not he could pull this off. He seems to require other actors to play off. It would certainly be better than License to Wed, the shotty-looking romantic comedy he’s starring in with Robin Williams and Mandy Moore. According to IMDb, Accepted director Steve Pink will be helming Fletch Won, which really doesn’t inspire confidence. If you ask me, they need to get their act together on this one or else it will be doomed before it even starts.
