Feminist Has Her Revenge on Borat

One year later, we’re still hearing plenty of fallout from Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat movie, with many of the film’s victims continuing to seek compensation for their public humiliation. But now here’s someone who is taking revenge in a slightly unorthodox way. Linda Stein is one of the feminists who was interviewed during the film; she is an artist and the entire segment took place in her New York City studio. (She has since written a personal account of how the Borat production team worked to hide their true intentions.)

Although she does call Baron Cohen a “brilliant man”, she also goes on to say, “He may do better with homophobia and racism, but he just didn’t do very well with sexism… Borat’s excessive woman-bashing is being taken the wrong way by the audience.” She cites thousands of angry e-mails that she received after the movie was released, mainly from men asking why she doesn’t have a sense of humour about it all. Well, now she’s proving them wrong in her new art exhibit, where Stein created three statues paired with images of Marilyn Monroe, Wonder Woman, and Borat. The Borat picture contains a small penis drawn over top of his thong. “I felt there should be some exposure on his part.” Well, I guess whatever makes you feel better! I do actually have more sympathy for her than a lot of the other victims in the film since she did nothing to make herself look foolish, and yet she still comes across that way on screen. What do you think, is Sacha Baron Cohen really propagating sexism?

  1. she’s blaming Cohen for idiots who dont get his jokes. there were plenty of people in the crowd who also took many of the racism and gay jokes seriously.

this woman thinks he failed at sexism because she’s clearly the type that cant laugh at herself to begin with. her ‘revenge’ actually seems a little ‘uh… ok… whats wrong with you?’
