D-War Trailer: The Next Big Korean Monster Movie
If you were a fan of the Korean monster movie The Host, you’ll want to pay close attention to this. I’ve been reading bits and pieces around the web about another upcoming Korean monster movie called D-War, and apparently it will be opening in 1500 U.S. theatres, making it the biggest opening of a Korean movie in North America ever. Word on the street is that this movie took almost 6 years to complete, and it was created with a worldwide audience in mind. It stars Hollywood actors such as Robert Forster, Jason Behr, Amanda Brooks and Aimee Garcia and features legendary dragon-like creatures known as The Imoogi, who make their way to Los Angeles and start to trash the city. Check out the trailer below; I can’t say the effects were 100% convincing but this still look like a lot of fun. Originally D-War was supposed to open late August, but I suspect we won’t see this in theatres until sometime in the fall.

Posted by ... on June 13th, 2007I loved The Host. This movie doesn’t look all that great to me. For one, the effects look rather unimpressive. Also, it just looks like a Godzilla-style big lizards invade a city type of story. I’ll need to see/hear more before I’m convinced that this is worth seeing.

Posted by Ashley on August 3rd, 2007I’ve never seen like this kinda movie. It has the fresh material, the smooth story, the cool CG, and I can see director Mr.Shim’s blood-and-tears endeavor from this movie.
And the host is great~
Please do not see this movie. It’s a trash. Koreans are out of mind to support this kind of movie. The story does not have any suspense. CG is awkward. Actors and actress do their jobs just for money or they do not know how to act at all. I am so disappointed at this movie. I wasted my precious time and money. Koreans just love the fact that the director, Sim, made the movie without considering that he is not a talented director.

I saw D-War this afternoon with fairly low expectations which the movie totally failed to meet. Apparently the movie had a $70 million budget. I wonder what Shim did with the other $69,900,000. The acting is wooden, the plot has more holes in it than a ripe Emmental and the CG takes the art-form back 15 years. Do yourself a favour and stay at home.

PLEASE DO NOT SEE THIS!! I am embarrassed by how many people are blinded by nationalism or sympathy to support this piece of garbage and think this will do well in the US.
SOOO many other GOOD Korean movies…oldboy, the host, shiri, and others… THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
if you want to watch the SUFFICIENT and ADEQUATE F/X (or really good…for a Power Rangers episode or sci-fi channel show) then cool!! Catch the 10 minute highlights of the last scence (last dragon is admittedly cool) on youtube (which will inevitibaly be uploaded) and save your $10 bucks and time of seeing the rest of the 90 minutes of utter crap.
10 minutes ok/good Dragon CGI vs 100 minutes of please-stab-me-in-the-face-movie-torture… YOU DECIDE!!!
I’m doing my PATRIOITC DUTY by DISassociating this from “korean blockbuster” overblown talk. We are not all lemmings to the flag-waving sympathy flame.

How can you say like that if you are Korean?
You know what, you look like strange guy because you are saying that other Korean movies are sooo good but D-War is not? Why?
I think D-war is worth to watch. Cool CG and fun things to watch. I know the story is not that good but still cool looking materials can cover that.
Remember gk, saying that you are Korean is not helpful to believe your words.
That makes me wonder ‘why korean people hate their movie?’

This movie is crap crap crap. There are so many good Korean movies out there already, too bad this crap is the first to open in US in a large scale.

Posted by great on September 3rd, 2007This movie was horrible. Idiotic, plotless, and talentless. Ths CG is “OKAY” but there are certain things that make a “monster” movie work. Mr. Shim had the correct tools but not the talent. I wish they had used a better director like Paek Chan Wook, he directed the very famous “OLD BOY” movie. Anyways, I say avoid this film. I want my 7 dollars back.

Posted by hansol on September 15th, 2007Well, i didn’t like the movie. However! Behr and Brooks ARE NOT the main characters of the movie. They are merely back up actors. When you watch an action movie, do you really care about the pedestrian and store owners actings? The real stars of this movie are the imoogies! It’s like Optimus Prime being the star of the transformers. Not LaBeouf. That’s why the title is “Dragon Wars” not “human wars.” And i don’t see anything wrong with the two imoogies’actings. Even though they only appeared in couple of sequences, their actings were great. Especially when they curled up to the building and roaring menicingly.

If CG alone can make a movie great, then “FF: Spirit within” is the best movie ever.
