The first trailer is online for the upcoming graphic novel adaptation 30 Days of Night starring Josh Hartnett. We all know there have been tons of comics coming to the big screen lately, and I am glad to see people branching out beyond the superhero genre. I’ve never read the comics written by Steve Niles, but I hear good things. The premise involves a group of vampires taking over a city in Alaska where the sun does not rise for 30 days (thus the title, 30 Days of Night). It’s a cool idea to be sure, and when we discussed the trailer on this week’s Film Junk podcast my main complaint was the fact that the visual style looked a little too slick. It almost seemed like they were going for the same look as 300, but knowing now that it’s directed by David Slade (Hard Candy), it totally makes sense because Hard Candy looked way more pristine and polished than your average indie flick. I am neither here nor there about Josh Hartnett, but this is one flick I’m looking forward to. 30 Days of Night is scheduled for an October 19th release date.
