The Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men Clips Online
One of the most talked about movies from this year’s Cannes Festival was The Coen Brothers’ No Country For Old Men. It narrowly missed winning the Palme D’Or this year (that distinction instead went to an abortion drama called 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days) however it is something I will definitely be keeping my eye out for at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
It’s been three years since we’ve seen anything new from The Coens (not counting their contribution to the collaborative film Paris je t’aime), their last film being The Ladykillers which I thought was decent but still a far cry from the best work. No Country for Old Men finds them moving away from comedy again in favour of another dark crime thriller in the vein of Fargo or Blood Simple. Based on the book by Cormac McCarthy, it is about a hunter who stumbles across the remnants of a drug deal gone bad… a few dead bodies, some cash and a lot of heroin. He takes the money, only to find himself on the run from a violent hitman sent to retrieve it. Sounds like it could bear some similarities to Sam Raimi’s highly underrated A Simple Plan as well. The movie stars Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Woody Harrelson, and you can currently check out five clips from the movie over at the French site Comme Au Cinema. Two things struck me about it: this film is both beautifully shot and bloody… a great combination! No Country for Old Men hits select theatres on November 9th.
