Monday Morning Box Office Report – May 28, 2007

Arrrr… there be pirates at the top of the box office this week. Unfortunately it looks like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End failed to break Spider-Man 3’s opening weekend record (it didn’t even surpass the opening of Pirates 2). I’m not sure why I say it is unfortunate as I really don’t care either way, but I guess it makes sense when you consider that neither Pirates 2 nor Pirates 3 received very strong reviews. The movie did still manage to bring in $112.5 million (not including the $14 million it made on Thursday night screenings), and was followed by Shrek The Third with another $51 mil and Spider-Man 3 with $13.7 million. Bug and Waitress rounded out the top 5, while 28 Weeks Later fell to 6th spot.

1. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End — $112.5 million
2. Shrek the Third — $51.0 million
3. Spider-Man 3 — $13.7 million
4. Bug — $3.3 million
5. Waitress — $3.1 million
6. 28 Weeks Later — $2.5 million
7. Georgia Rule — $1.9 million
8. Disturbia — $1.8 million
9. Wild Hogs — $1.1 million
10. Fracture — $1.1 million

  1. I didn’t see Pirates or Shrek. They’ve done well at the box office it seems, but I’ve yet to hear any truly magnificent reviews of either. The same could essentially be said for Spidey 3, though. It pains me that Bug didn’t make more than $3.3 million, but not as much as it pains me to say that I’ve yet to see it myself. I plan on going this coming Thursday with a friend. Here’s hoping that it’s worth my money, because I sure don’t have much.
