Bruno Movie Confirmed: Sacha Baron Cohen Spotted in L.A.

Ever since Borat became the break out hit of 2006, everyone’s been wondering what Sacha Baron Cohen would do for an encore. His next film has been the subject of a massive bidding war (Universal landed it for $42 million), but up until now there were conflicting reports over whether or not it would be a true Borat sequel, or a movie starring one of his other characters, specifically gay fashion journalist Bruno. This week it seems that we have an unofficial confirmation that a Bruno movie is in the works. According to a scooper at Defamer, Bruno crashed the Foreign Trade Association luncheon at the Omni Hotel in downtown Los Angeles yesterday. His crew was up to their old tricks, telling interviewees that they were shooting a documentary about American culture and world trade, and paying participants $20 to appear on camera.

“Sacha had about 10 people with him. Three people running around with releases to sign, 4 camera people, a blonde haired producer watching the whole thing and a frazzled old dude with string salt and pepper hair checking the sound at the other end of the ballroom. At one point he started freaking out and telling the producer “I don’t have any fucking sound! Get that guy back for another interview! I don’t hear shit!” They were obviously trained to deal with someone catching on, because as soon as I realized who he was (and I wasn’t very good at hiding my surprise) his staff were on me like lindsay lohan to a line of coke.” Obviously most people still don’t know who Bruno is, but with reports like this floating around out there, I wonder if it’s going to be a lot harder for them to shoot another movie like this. I still can’t see a Bruno movie being nearly as successful as Borat was, but I suppose for $42 million, you might as well give it the old college try!

  1. sacha baron cohen is not funny

  2. But his characters are?

  3. rarely

  4. I thought Borat was hilarious, but I can totally see this movie being ruined by countless ’sightings’.

I just hope I won’t have to hear people complain that some particular scene that they heard about on the internet wasn’t in the movie.
