Monday Morning Box Office Report: May 21, 2007

As expected, Shrek The Third did quite well at the box office this past weekend; it took in $122 million, breaking its predecessor’s record for best animated opening weekend. This puts it right behind Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest as the third highest opening of all time. Unfortunately, in this summer of massive movies, it probably won’t stay on top for long. Spider-Man 3 had another big drop off but maintained the #2 spot, while 28 Weeks Later came in at #3 with $5.15 million.
