Teaser Trailer for Iranian Animated Film Persepolis

Well if you’re sick of seeing the same old Hollywood crap, then you just might be interested in this highly original piece of work. It’s an animated feature called Persepolis (not to be confused with that 300-related documentary), based on an autobiographical comic by Iranian artist Marjane Satrapi. It tells the story of a young girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, before moving to Austria as a teenager. It seems to be one of the most talked about movies playing at Cannes this year, and it has already been picked up by Sony Pictures Classics for distribution. A teaser trailer for the film is embedded below, unfortunately it’s all in French and the only words I understood were “Iron Maiden” and “Michael Jackson”. Still, the animation style looks fantastic and I look forward to hearing more about it. In the meantime, you can check out some stills and a blog over at the movie’s official site.
