Adult Swim’s Tim and Eric Love Shrek The Third! (Not Really Though)

If you haven’t seen the hilarious and nonsensical Adult Swim program Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, this next post probably won’t make a lot of sense to you. But that’s kind of the point. Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim have created the first fully live action show on the Cartoon Network, and it is a wildly creative and off-the-wall tribute to the YouTube era full of bizarre sketches and segments. In keeping with the YouTube spirit, they have put together a series of viral videos whereupon they talk about how excited they are about Shrek The Third, and how groundbreaking Shrek really is. It’s so ironic it hurts (no, these are not paid advertisements). You can find even more of their Shrek vids here.

  1. Yeah they are on the phone on MTV now talking about Shrek. It’s some kind of Human Giant 24 hour take over. They showed Come to Daddy and clips from The State it’s pretty awesome if not inexplicable considering MTV sucks now. I wonder if they’ll show episodes of The Maxx at like 3 AM. Who knows, that’s a show that should be out on DVD along with all the episodes of The State.

  2. “it’s amazing to think that we lived in a time before Shrek was on”

  3. No offense, but, I have to say there’s no accounting for taste.
The humor of the live action shows on adult swim is not ironic, it’s MORONIC. It sinks to the lowest common denominator: Base, crass, crude, tasteless, etc. I get the jokes, they’re just all in incomprehensibly bad taste. If you’re finding some deep meaning in these shows, my suggestion might be for you to try a philosophy class at your local college…

My two cents, for what they’re worth…

  4. So you only have a problem with the live action shows on Adult Swim?

Personally I think Sealab 2021 teaches the meaning of life, but hey, that’s just me.

  5. Sean,
Yeah, it’s mainly the live action shows. Consider: Adult Swim is on the Cartoon Network, live action should be, by definition, a “no-no”. And, acting “cartoonish” really doesn’t qualify.
Sadly, “Tim and Eric” as well as “Saul of the Mole Men” are plain and simple NOT FUNNY - Not even Playboy Playmate Irina Voronina is gonna be able to save that one…
These shows are NOT multi-layered or intellectually deep or “ironic” as someone posted before; they’re BANAL and completely un-entertaining.
The fact is, my friend Eric made far more interesting, entertaining, hilarious stuff with his home video camera back when we in the 10th grade…
I wouldn’t have such an objection to them if there was one iota of something remotely resembling anything remotely akin to entertainment to be found there.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of CRAP on Adult Swim, “Boondocks” (with its stereotype perpetuating of blacks)comes to mind, as does “Squidbillys”, and “Moral Orel” is beyond reprehensible.
The “communism” episodes of Sealab 2021 were AWESOME; multi layered, truly funny, and yes, ironic!
The same would go for “Metalocalypse”. AWESOME!
But yeah, the live action stuff is particularly awful in my opinion.

Your mileage may vary, not for use with all Hot Wheels sets, kids, get your parents’ permission before calling…

  6. And honestly, I don’t mean any offense to anyone with my posts. They’re just my opinions. Obviously, they’re not set in stone as “The Law” or the Gospel…
Opinions and tastes vary. Mine just happen to go in the direction away from the live action shows on Adult Swim.
Oh yeah, “Shin Chan” is tasteless and crude; but for some reason, my wife and I find it hysterically funny. Go figure…

  7. Shinchan = funny. VERY VERY funny actually. You have to listen in on what they said.

Sealab 2021 = was funny, show not on anymore? Funny because of all the sex related jokes.

Home Movies = decent, pretty good (gotta get into it)

Futurama = godly show, real funny.

Saul of the Mole Men = WTF? I couldn’t watch this show at all… I gave it a chance, and actually forced myself to watch it just incase it got funny or something… NOPE. VERY annoying to watch.

Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show = zZz… Some people find this funny I guess… I just completely don’t find their sketches all that funny.

Human Giant (on MTV) is not bad. The sketches they make are pretty funny. Don’t know how this got in here.

I actually like Boondocks. I find some of it pretty funny, and I like how one of the kids act immature, and the other one has the maturity of an old man.

  8. why does something have to be deep, multilayered or ironic to be funny the tim and eric awesome show is what it is no hidden meaning or sub-plot.

perhaps one might write to adult swim and one might ask said adult swim to provide thee with a more whimsical form of post-modern, surrealist irony that may very well rival a shakesperian sonnet perchance and without folly so that one might have a gay old time .

  9. Yo,

How can you say tim and eric is not funny, have you seen chunky, where the bald guy splashed cofee in the fat womans face. Have you seen murder me hilarious, have you seen uncle muscles hour, robbers and cobs, and cinco, None of that is funny to you, steve brule having a nervous breakdown, nothing , WTF you must be smoking some SWAG!!!!!

  10. No way could I ever find Tim and Eric funny, in fact most of the time, it makes me want to puke, seeing someone drool, or chew food/whatever the fuck it is in their mouth, or have even fake vomit hanging off their face.

That in no way is funny to a mature, sober person. I thought adult swim was for adults?

Saul of the Mole Men and Tim and Eric NOT awesome show is appealing probably to children that are drunk, and stoners.

It’s just random shit thrown together. Random clips of absolute unfunny stupidity.
I’d rather watch only Family Guy for the rest of my life, at least it’s entertaining.
