New Transformers Trailer Hits the Web

Well, this is it. Your final trailer for Michael Bay’s Transformers before it hits theatres on July 4th. They’re clearly pulling out all the stops, as it’s made up of 90% explosions and gunfights (in other words, no different than any other Michael Bay film). Unfortunately, most of the so-called “money shots” we’ve seen before, so you don’t really get a good look at anything terribly new. Fanboys will wet themselves when they hear the classic transforming sound effect though. Is it epic and impressive? Absolutely. Do I still think it will suck? Absolutely. Check it out now over at Yahoo!.

  1. What are you talking about?! I know you have some preconceived dislike for Bay and this movie, but this is chock full of new footage! We haven’t seen hardly any of it before, so I don’t know what you’re talking about! It looks incredible, I think it’s going to be the “movie event” of the summer (not saying the best movie, but an opening not to forget)! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts once you see it…

  2. I don’t know, I felt like most the slow-mo shots of the robots attacking I’ve seen before. The Shia LaBeouf stuff at the beginning was new. The Optimus Prime shots were new. See, I don’t even know who the other robots are supposed to be so maybe I’m just getting confused.

I will say this: it’s what a summer blockbuster should be. And maybe if they keep it simple, it can be good on that level. I just think any attempts to create a complicated story or deep characters will be laughable at best.

  3. We don’t see any of the robots talking = They weren’t able to pull it off.

It’s a shame. The pictures do look nice in an over the top way. You even have soldiers crying out “Bring it!” Too bad it’s not starring Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme, that way this might have a life 10 years from now.

  4. How can dislike of Michael Bay be preconceived though? Obviously it’s based on the 6 major motion pictures he has made.

  5. Ugh…… this looks like it’s gonna be ridiculously bad. Though, really why expect anything else from Bay?

  6. I also hate Michael Bay. The only cool thing I’ve heard about this movie is Peter Cullen doing the voice of Optimus Prime.

  7. Transformers will fucking rule, mark my words people. The trailer is great in a way it doesn’t show us too much, just teases, unlike most trailers, yeah I’m looking at you Spider-Man 3.

What more could we want? Gaint robots kick the bolts out of each other…….come on you love it, you know you do ;)

  8. If the whole movie is like the latter half of this trailer, I admit it will at least be entertaining. But I think people are forgetting there’s going to be a lot of cheesy crap with Shia LaBeouf too.

  9. Sweet Christ on a cracker! That trailer was amazing! I’m finally looking forward to this movie for more than just nostalgic reasons.

  10. “there’s going to be a lot of cheesy crap with Shia LaBeouf”

And what exactly is the problem with that? Was anyone really expecting anything different? At least there’ll (apparently) be lots of action to keep folks entertained.

Until now, I’ve only been mildly interested but now, I’m on board. Bring on the giant robots!

  11. all the trailers before this i’ve been ‘eh’ about, thinking everyone was getting their hopes way up. but this looked impressive. really.

so long as it looks half as good as this did and has lots of action i’m sure i’ll be happy now.

  12. i thinks it’s funny how movie sites differ these days, you guys over here all seem like the highbrow-class movie geeks, that piss on anything big bidget over the top action, while ove at the movie blog everybody is pissing their pants after seeing this clip!! funny an strange at the same time!! i’m with the second on this one!!

  13. Well someone has to be the voice of reason! Actually I’m really trying not to sound like an art snob about this. I’m keeping an open mind when I go into the theatre. All I’m saying is I still have my doubts about this movie, but I’d love to be proven wrong. On the other hand, we’re not only about the high brow though… for instance, I’m actually really looking forward to Die Hard 4.

  14. bertbelgium,

I can see where you might get that idea, but i’m positive that upon further investigation (especially into the podcasts) you’ll find that we’re just as into blockbuster movies as any other site. Maybe we’re just a little more selective then others and hold much more reservations than some other sites when it comes to these types of films.

Spider-Man 2 has been one of my favourite movies in quite some time, and definitely my favourite comic book movie. Sean praised Spider-Man 3, even when other sites (such as The Movie Blog, as you’d mentioned) are pissing all over it.

It’s fair to say that our taste in movies is probably polar opposite to some sites such as The Movie Blog, but I don’t think it’s entirely fair to say we ‘piss on’ every blockbuster film that hits theatres.

As far as Transformers is concerned, sure this trailer looked alright. But I think everyone has taken the term ‘Giant Fucking Robots’ and ran a little too far with it. I can only speak for myself in saying that I certainly hope there’s much more to this movie than ‘giant fucking robots’, but I seriously doubt it. For those of you that are satisfied with tuning out all of the garbage to focus on the effects, more power to you.

  15. There is a new Dutch version of the trailer here:
    http://www.universalpictures.nl/bioscoop/data/trans/trailerf.html

I was originally lead to believe this had new footage, but upon further viewing I don’t think this is the case.

  16. hey Sean and Jay, make no mistake, I like you guys and I like your podcast, it was just a thought that had crossed my mind, I didn’t mean to cast judgement on your taste of movies. Sure there isn’t going to be a hell of a lot depth to this story, sure it’s gonna be giant fucking robots blowing shit up and throwing cars around! But I’m fine with that, I’m not expecting oscar material, (though I’m gonna be pissed if it doesn’t get best special effects next year!),but since you mention Die Hard 4, I think that movie looks in fact more ridiculous than the transformers movie does, I believe there are practically as many flying cars in Die Hard as in Transformers if you compare the trailers!! But I don’t really care, I’ll probably watch both, but I know wich one I’ll enjoy most!!

I just hope there are no dancing scenes in either of them!!

    Nice talking to you guys!

  17. There was a phillipine trailer that had some different footage. It ended with Shia LeBeouf talking to Optimus Prime who’s standing by his window going “If my parents see you they’re gonna freak! My mom’s got a temper!”

I really doubt this will top the action in Spider-Man though… I haven’t really been blown away by any of the scenes in Bay’s previous movies. There was hardly any robot-on-robot action anyway. And since they didn’t show the Transformers say anything, I lost confidence in their ability to make it non-laughable.
