Robert Rodriguez to Direct The Jetsons Movie?
The internet is abuzz with talk about a couple of movies that Robert Rodriguez is reportedly pursuing for his next project (after Sin City 2, I’m assuming). The first is, strangely enough, a fantasy film that Will Ferrell is attached to star in. It’s called Land of the Lost, and it is based on a 1974 sci-fi adventure series for kids created by Sid and Marty Krofft (H.R. Pufnstuf).
The second, and apparently more likely candidate, is the live action feature film adaptation of the Hanna Barbera animated series The Jetsons! In both cases it seems like Rodriguez needs a good family film to follow up some of his more recent R-rated projects. I enjoyed the first Spy Kids movie a great deal (still have yet to see the sequels though), and I would love to see him take on either of these films. In the case of The Jetsons, it would be a chance to do a Hanna Barbera series justice on the big screen (The Flintstones and Scooby Doo movies were, for the most part, steaming piles of crap). With his extensive green screen experience and in-house CGI studio, he definitely has the resources to pull it off. I just hope he’s not afraid to give something like The Jetsons the budget and production quality it deserves… he likes to work cheaply, but it deserves blockbuster treatment in my opinion. Adam Goldberg, who wrote Fanboys, The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz and the Revenge of the Nerds remake, wrote The Jetsons screenplay. Thoughts?

this could be interesting if Rodriguez does it, i would like to see how he would cast it and film it. who would be a good cast for The Jetsons, i would think that William H Macy would be perfect as George.

Posted by Henrik on May 9th, 2007i’ll have to keep my eyes on this one – can’t quite visualize how the jetsons could be live action, but hopefully rodriquez does it justice.
Posted by daburf on May 10th, 2007Just as long as Will Ferrell isn’t cast, it has a chance. Bill Macey with Debra Jo Rupp would be a great George and Jane, but maybe a bit too old.
Posted by Rick on March 9th, 2008Well this is a year old now and thankfully nothing every came of it. Thank god. I think we can close this case once and for all.
