Bravestarr Coming to DVD This Summer

I’m sad to say that we will be formally closing down The 80’s Blog this month as we just haven’t had the time or resources to keep it going. However, our friend Matt, who has been writing a bunch of stuff over there, will be coming over to Film Junk to give some reviews of his favourite obscure cult classics and b-movies, both 80’s related and otherwise. What this also means is that we will also be posting the odd 80’s related news tidbit on Film Junk, and I couldn’t resist informing everyone that the classic 80’s cartoon Bravestarr is coming to DVD this summer!

You may remember this was a space western about the sheriff of the planet New Texas, known for his Native American powers Eyes of the Hawk, Ears of the Wolf, Strength of the Bear and Speed of the Puma. His sidekick was a robotic horse named Thirty/Thirty. The show was produced by Filmation, the same people who did He-Man and She-Ra, and the DVDs will also be released by BCI the same people who did such a great job releasing He-Man and She-Ra on DVD. On July 3rd they will put out the initial package The Best of Bravestarr, a DVD featuring 5 favourite episodes picked by fans and the feature film Bravestarr: The Legend. It will be followed by full season sets; extras are still TBA. In the meantime, you can refresh your memory with a few full episodes of Bravestarr on YouTube: here, here and here!

  1. Strength of the bear … speed of the puma?

  2. Nice, I hate BraveStarr! But since hating things is fun, I look forward to seeing this one hit shelves.

Glad to see the 80’s content will live on. :)

  3. FUCKING YES! Now THIS is a cartoon i’m pumped for! FFUFUUUUCCCKKKKKK

  4. Does anyone remember the one in the early 90’s about the cows that were cowboys and rode horses? I couldn’t get past that, cows riding horses it seemed very wrong because you know they had weight of the bovine.

  5. Holy crap! I’ve never even heard of this show, but as soon as I saw that picture I realized that I had a toy of that guy when I was a kid. I never knew who he was. The show looks ridiculous. A robot horse, a futuristic cowboy, and a Snarf-looking guy? Sign me up.

  6. i think that i remember this show, i must have caught a show here and there.
