Rise: Blood Hunter Trailer Starring Lucy Liu

Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures studio has been putting out a steady flow of horror-related movies, although so far none of them have really stood out to me. Movies like The Grudge, The Grudge 2, Boogeyman and The Messengers were almost universally panned, although some of them managed to hold their own at the box office. Next on the agenda: Rise: Blood Hunter starring Lucy Liu.

This isn’t a straight up horror movie, it seems to be more in line with the Blades and Underworlds than anything else, as Liu stars as a female reporter investigating a cult in L.A. who wakes up undead and vows revenge. It’s directed by Sebastian Gutierrez, who wrote Gothika, The Big Bounce and co-wrote Snakes on a Plane. Judging by the trailer, it looks like another one of those flashy big budget horror flicks, using all kinds of annoying effects and a music video style to beat you into submission. But with a couple of hot women like Lucy Liu and Carla Gugino running around in skimpy clothes, I’m sure it will attract plenty of fanboys to its cause. Personally, I think I’ll have to pass. Rise: Blood Hunter hits theatres on June 1st; check out the trailer at the official site now.

  1. no thanks, i think that i will pass on this crap!

  2. Saw this at Tribeca. It’s terribly marketed. Not a big budget music video-ish flashy movie at all. Much more of a noir, with mostly old style in-camera effects. Lucy Liu is terrific. You can tell they tweaked what is basically a bleak revenge story into something the studio felt could be more “comemercial”. It is way classier than Messengers and the other Ghost House crap and a million miles away from Gothika or Big Bounce. Deserves a shot and a director’s cut on dvd.
