Hogzilla: The Movie
Well after our recent discussion about monster movies on last week’s Film Junk Podcast (thanks again to Rian for the voice mail), it appears that the mother of all monster movies has just been announced. A group of indie filmmakers down in Georgia are putting together a new horror flick based on the legend of the 1,000 lbs pig, Hogzilla! Hogzilla has long been thought to be an urban myth, but in 2005 a team from National Geographic analyzed its remains and confirmed that it did in fact exist, although its weight was actually closer to 800 lbs.
Lithium Productions will be auditioning for extras in Tifton, Georgia, on May 8th and 9th. One catch: you have to pay a $20 application fee to try out. Obviously that’s how they’re funding the damn thing! Producer Rick Trimm had this to say: “We are hoping about 400 to 500 people will turn out for the casting call. We don’t need professional actors… We need real people who are interested in the movie.” Chris Griffin, the man who killed Hogzilla in real life, will make a cameo in the film and has been hired on as an advisor. Is it just me or does this remind anyone else of American Movie? Someone needs to do a documentary on the production of this film, pronto. Cameras start rolling on The Legend of Hogzilla in June.

I’m confused…are you saying that there really was a giant pig or that in the story of the film they’re saying there was a real giant pig? You know what? It doesn’t much matter. I’ll be there to see this the day it opens regardless. Rock on, Hogzilla.
Posted by Rian on May 1st, 2007Well the story is apparently real, but for the movie I’m assuming they’d exagerrate it since it’s a horror movie.
Posted by Sean on May 1st, 2007I’m from Tifton (where they’re holding the auditions). The story’s definitely real. Completely strange, but real. I’ll more than likely be at the auditions. $20 is not much to pay for a day of fun laughing at all the weird people that show up. I’ll keep you posted!
Posted by Lauren on May 2nd, 2007This is a joke, money scam. That guy producing this movie is a bum with no experience. Dont waste your 20 dollars.
Posted by Tifton on May 4th, 2007HEY, I WAS ONE OF THE TALENTS WHO WENT FOR THE AUDITION. IT WAS FUN! I COULDN’T WAIT TO FINALLY SEE THE MOVIE WHETHER I GOT A PART OR NOT! VIVA HOGZILLA!
Posted by MYSTICA on May 11th, 2007what exactly does hogzilla do? i’m confused….does it travel around on a wacky adventure like “babe the pig” or is this a lowbudget horror flim where hogzilla terrorizes a small country town, maybe cause it didn’t win the state fair prettiest pig contest???……
