I really enjoyed the Superman cartonn that aired a few years back (the one this is clearly intended to be related to – it was the Superman version of Batman: TAS for any of you that missed it) – but the quality looks like it’s take a bit of a nose dive. Here’s my biggest beef though.

Remember the Spiderman cartoon that ran in the early 90’s? They had a brilliant formula. Rather than telling a one off story, they kept it true to its comics roots and, if they needed 6 or 8 episodes to tell a story, they’d do that. That’s the sort of thing the Death of Superman needs. Pretty much a full season of a cartoon. 26 half hour episodes. There’s the build up to it, the actual death, the funeral portion, the arrival and development of the four supermen, the return of the original, and the climax. There’s no way you can fit all of that into a 90 minute DVD. Can’t happen. That’s like trying to tell the story of the Bible on a two-night ABC movie – you’re going to have to cut most of it out to cram it in there.
