Last year the Lonely Island guys made quite a name for themselves with the Saturday Night Live digital short “Lazy Sunday”, which quickly became one of the most popular viral videos ever to hit the web. It made Andy Samberg an overnight star, and brought a lot of interest back to SNL after many years of dwindling viewers. Now they’re about to find out if internet and television fame can translate to big screen success with Hot Rod.

The movie stars Samberg as Rod Kimble, an amateur stuntman trying to raise money for a heart operation for his abusive stepfather. It is directed by the filmmaker of the group, SNL writer Akiva Schaffer, and co-stars Jorma Taccone (another SNL writer and Lonely Island actor) along with Will Arnett, Danny McBride, Isla Fisher, and Sissy Spacek. The movie was also co-written by Pam Brady, frequent South Park collaborator and co-writer of Team America: World Police. I definitely think it has potential, although the first teaser trailer didn’t do much for me and is too short to really pass judgment on. Head over to Hollywood.com and see what you think.
