Fox Pulls Drive Off the Road

Looks like it’s back to the drawing board for Tim Minear, as once again his latest show Drive has been cancelled after airing only 4 episodes. You have to wonder why the guy continues to work with Fox… not only do they have a reputation for cancelling shows early and often, but this will make the fourth TV series that he has worked on that was pulled out from under him (the previous ones were Wonderfalls, Firefly and The Inside). I had been sort of half-following the show and from what I did see it was surprisingly good, unfortunately I had a feeling it wouldn’t last. There’s never much hope for mid-season replacements. There are still two more unaired episodes ready to go, and odds are they will simply end up streaming online. Sadly, it looks like many of the show’s mysteries will remain permanently unsolved. In the meantime, the empty timeslot will be filled with (surprise surprise) more reruns of House.

  1. Man, i think you need to watch a full episode, It sucked.. BIGTIME…

shallow characters, awful directing… just straight up bad. I was trying to think what to compare it to on a crapness scale, and I would have to compare it to something like ‘Invasion’ but even that is probably being way to generous.

I really like both Tim Minear and Nathan Fillion but both those guys were better than this.

  2. I watched the first two episodes and I liked it. I just saw it as being more campy than anything… which is admittedly a fine line. I’m not going to complain and say it didn’t deserve to be cancelled… it was clearly too hokey to become more than a cult hit, but they also didn’t give it much of a marketing push. Plus it had the worst theme song everrrrrrrrrrrr (yes worse than Star Trek Enterprise).

  3. The enterprise song wasn’t that bad. It was just so gay, it tainted the entire show. Everything would feel gay when you open it with that song.

In the gay genre, it’s not a bad song, it was just a horrible fit for Star Trek. It could have opened The OC.

  4. I wanted to know if this show is cancelled forever? My husband and I looked forward to watching this show Mondays when we get home. I love house but come on, “re-runs” If your a true House fan, you would have seen it or recorded it on DVR. I think its unfair that you just yank a show, without any consideration if the viwers were insterested first.
I have lost a lot of respect for Fox and if it was’nt for House or American Idol, I would never watch it!

  5. Hey Pamela, the official Fox website says the final 2 episodes will air sometime this summer. But other than that, yeah, it’s done.
