Joss Whedon Interested in Directing X-Men 4?
In other shocking news today, it seems that fanboy fave Joss Whedon would actually consider directing X-Men 4… you know, if they were actually going to make an X-Men 4. Wizard Magazine recently asked Whedon about the rumour that he was in talks to direct, to which he replied, “I haven’t heard the rumor… I don’t even know, are they even going to have an X4? I had been talking with [Marvel Studios] about X3, but the dates didn’t line up. So I took on Wonder Woman and that worked out great! Oh, no wait, I remember now, not so much.” Oh that Joss, he’s such a kidder.
When pressed on whether or not he’d be interested though, he did his best to leave the door open: “I do love the characters. I wouldn’t say never. But right now, I’m interested in doing Goners, which is my own thing, as opposed to somebody else’s. I find that doing someone else’s thing is not working out so well for meâ€â€anywhere but in the world of actual comics.” Oh, you mean like that movie Serenity… the one that tanked at the box office? Ouch, I know. Low blow. To be honest though, I would be completely happy with Whedon directing an X-Men movie and I think a lot of other people would be as well. His run on Astonishing X-Men is loved by all, and he clearly has a good grasp on the characters. That said, I completely understand his point about sticking to his own material. I’m sure he wouldn’t turn down the chance to direct an X-Men movie (let’s face it, that would just be crazy), but until it comes up there’s no point in getting all worked up about it. So let’s all just take a deep breath and go rewatch Alien: Resurrection a few more times.
