Anchor Bay Entertainment Becomes Starz

For many years now, the name Anchor Bay has been synonymous with cult classic films, in particular horror movies. They have been responsible for a ton of great DVD releases, not the least of which includes most of the Evil Dead and Halloween releases, the Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition, all of the Masters of Horror episodes, and cult TV series like Sledge Hammer! and The Greatest American Hero. Now it looks like Anchor Bay is no more… or at least, the name Anchor Bay is no more. Effective immediately, Anchor Bay Entertainment has been renamed to Starz Home Entertainment. This is a result of new ownership in its parent company, IDT Entertainment, which has since been named Starz Media to coincide with the Starz cable TV network. As far as I know, nothing else will change about their day to day operations, but it makes you wonder, what’s in a name? The Anchor Bay brand was one that a lot of movie fans trusted. Starz doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

  1. 4 years ago, i once sneaked into the Anchor Bay/Full Moon warehouse by accident…i was looking for the legendary punk club the masque, which had closed in 81, the walls had the same punk writing on the walls from the club days…despite all the DVDs around me of some of my favorite films, i swear - i didnt take anything!
