The first trailer for the upcoming remake of John Waters’ classic Hairspray is now online, and although I still maintain my intense indifference toward musicals, I have to say that this one looks like it could be a lot of fun. As you’ve no doubt heard, the movie stars John Travolta in drag and wearing a fat suit, which is probably the best reason to go see it, but it also features Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer and James Marsden. The new version of Hairspray is directed by Adam Shankman (Bringing Down the House, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, The Pacifier). I have a feeling this will not go over well with Middle America, but what can you do. Hairspray hits theatres on July 20th, which puts it up against Adam Sandler’s I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. How ironic.
