Michael Bay Directing Prince of Persia Movie

A couple of months ago we started hearing some rumours coming out of the Disney camp that one of their next big blockbuster franchises would be Prince of Persia, based on the popular video game series created by Jordan Mechner. Their intentions were to mold the story into a Pirates of the Caribbean-style adventure, and with Jerry Bruckheimer producing, it seemed quite feasible to me. Now this week the director of the first Prince of Persia movie has been revealed, and according to IESB, it will be none other than Bruckheimer’s old buddy, Michael Bay! Oh crap.

Just when I was starting to believe that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time had the potential to be the first true high quality, high profile video game movie, they had to go and hire Mr. Rock N Roll! What is Disney thinking? Well, I know what they’re thinking. They’re thinking he pretty much exclusively makes big blockbuster movies, and if the Transformers is as successful as people are thinking it will be, he will be the perfect name to get geeks excited about the project. Personally I don’t think this is a good fit for Michael Bay… he is all about guns and explosions and military action, not fantasy adventure. However, I do think he would be absolutely perfect to direct a movie based on Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, the follow-up game to The Sands of Time which took the series in a ridiculously over the top, dark and bloody direction. Don’t you think?

  1. so long, movie!

  2. Who on earth were you expecting to direct this movie that would have been better?

Michael Bay may be a hack and he may make bad films, but at least it’s not the guy who wrote armageddon (picked for the punisher) or some name like Eli Roth or Jonathan Leavesman or whatever that guys name is.

Anyway, my point is, how many directors in the world actually makes you excited for a movie? And is Michael Bay a bigger turnoff than most directors?

  3. nooooooooooooooooo
