The Black Donnellys Get Whacked
Big surprise… looks like NBC has pulled the plug on the Paul Haggis/Bobby Moresco Irish mob drama The Black Donnellys after only airing 5 episodes. The series just wasn’t generating the ratings they wanted after placing third in its timeslot yet again. NBC had already announced that they would be replacing the show with a new hidden camera series The Real Wedding Crashers. While the show’s cancellation is not yet “official”, it seems that its fate is sealed. Don’t you hate getting into a TV show just before it gets cancelled? I had a feeling this was going to happen though. The Black Donnellys definitely had a slow start and took a while to develop, but of course, just when I was really getting into it… BLAMMO. The remaining episodes will stream online, and I imagine we’ll probably see a DVD release at some point.

I’m going to try to keep my language clean here.
This really annoys me, the exact same thing happened to ‘The Nine.’ That show seemed to have gone on hiatus at the same time LOST, Jericho, and Heroes took their winter breaks but ‘The Nine’ never came back. I think ‘The Black Donnellys’ was an amazing show and had room for so much potential, dare I say the next ‘Soprano’s’? I guess I have to come to face with the seemingly stone written fact that we live in a world where ratings decide the life of a TV show and I guess these are two shows that just didn’t make the cut. (Like ‘Oddyssy 5′ a few years back, whose first season ended with a cliffhanger that never resolved because it was canceled.)

If only they’d bring back the remaining Studio 60 episodes to take over the slot again.
