Ben Stiller and Dreamworks To Produce Another Animated Superhero Parody
Well it looks like we’re in for another case of Hollywood deja vu, as Dreamworks Animation just announced a new movie in the works that sounds a heck of a lot like Pixar’s The Incredibles. Master Mind is a spec script by Brent Simons and Alan Schoolcraft (a frequent Coen Bros collaborator, according to IMDb) that was brought to the attention of Ben Stiller and his partner Stuart Cornfeld at Red Hour Films. The story is about a supervillain who accidentally kills his arch nemesis Uberman, and then finds himself floundering without a purpose in life.
Sounds like a potentially funny concept, to be sure, but I’m afraid this kind of thing is being done to death right now. (For example, Craig Mazin, director of comic book spoof The Specials is also helming a new parody called Superhero!. Talk about overcrowding.) Add this to the fact that it’s clearly going to be held up against a great movie like The Incredibles, and I think Dreamworks has their work cut out for them. Cameron Hood and Kyle Jefferson will make their feature-length directorial debut with Master Mind. They previously helmed the short film First Flight, which played with Over The Hedge.
