Adventures in Babysitting Remake Moves Forward
Adventures in Babysitting is one of those movies that, if you were growing up in the 80’s, you probably couldn’t help but see multiple times. It also happens to be the first movie directed by Chris Columbus, who would later go on to direct Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire and the first 2 Harry Potter movies. Nowadays, a movie about a babysitter dragging some kids to the inner city to rescue a friend who is stranded at a bus station would probably be laughed out of any studio board room. But back in the 80’s, this is exactly what audiences wanted. Maybe that’s what I have such a hard time believing that they’re going to remake it!
We heard about the possibility nearly two years ago, and you’d think that since then Disney might have come to their senses. But instead it looks like they’ve just hired a new writer and started casting. Sources say that Tiffany Paulsen (Nancy Drew) will be penning the remake, which is strangely titled Further Adventures in Babysitting. You know, it seems like half of these remakes can’t decide if they want to be a remake or a sequel. As far as casting rumours go, Raven-Symoné (of That’s So Raven fame, also better known as the little girl Olivia from The Cosby Show) is said to be filling Elisabeth Shue’s shoes (pun intended) in the lead role, with Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) co-starring, possibly as the stranded friend. Although I do miss a lot of the 80’s sensibility in films nowadays, looking at the direction they’re heading with this it seems they’re skewing a lot younger and making something that will be a lot more disposable. So what else is new?
