This Week on DVD – March 27, 2007

If you didn’t see Alfonso Cuarón’s wonderful Children of Men when it was in theatres a few months ago, now’s your chance to see it on DVD or HD-DVD. The title that’s probably going to move the most units, however, is Happy Feet; in fact, a lot of people are expecting it to set some new records for high-definition sales. Other major releases include Will Smith and his son in The Pursuit of Happyness, Zhang Yimou’s breaktaking Curse of the Golden Flower, and the poorly received Turistas. The under the radar hit of the week might be Brian W. Cook’s Color Me Kubrick, starring John Malkovich as a guy who got away with impersonating Stanley Kubrick.

  1. Color Me Kubrick sounds interesting – I’d never heard of it until now. I’ll be adding it to my ZipList momentarily. :)

Too bad Curse of the Golden Flower isn’t in HD. :(

  2. I’m pretty sure Color Me Kubrick came out in theatres, not on dvd.

  3. Jay – According to Zip it’s DVD –

  4. I guess it is. Strange that it’s review is currently on the main page of Roger Ebert’s site.

  5. It was released simultaneously in theatres and on DVD.

  6. Anybody heard anything about the Chilrden of Men HD DVD release? It’s listed on both Best Buy and Futureshop’s websites as not in stock. We better not get screwed on this one.

  7. Are we going to get a filmjunk review of Color My Kubrick? I’m pretty excited about it, but I think there’s a big chance it’s bad so, would be nice with a heads up before it gets released here.

  8. i just watched Happy Feet. it was actually pretty good. well directed (from the maker of the Babe movies) and has the best CGI from a non-Pixar film that i’ve seen.

but i’m also pissed off, because now I want to cut the heads off all the people who called this global warming propaganda. man some people are so fucking stupid they have to read into every little bit, i imagine if they also think that Bambi is anti-NRA propaganda.
