Leaked Trailer for Neil Gaiman’s Stardust

I hadn’t heard about this movie until just now, but this leaked trailer for the upcoming movie Stardust has really captured my interest. The star-studded cast doesn’t hurt either, and the fact that it’s based on a Neil Gaiman graphic novel is enough to sell me on it. The story is told in the style of an old English fairy tale, about a young man on a quest to retrieve a fallen star that has transformed into a young girl. The Pirates of the Caribbean music makes it pretty clear that they are going for a similar big adventure feel (as I understand, De Niro plays a pirate in this movie). Stardust is being directed by Matthew Vaughn, who previously did Layer Cake and was supposed to direct X-Men 3 before backing out in the 11th hour. The cast includes Charlie Cox, Robert De Niro, Peter O’Toole, Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sienna Miller, and… Ricky Gervais? I’m there. Check out the trailer below, although keep in mind, it appears to be a work in progress. Stay tuned to the movie’s official site for more info.

  1. In the beginning I thought it looked like a blatant M. Night Shyamalan ripoff, but then I realized they were using the Signs score, so that may be the only reason I was thinking that. Did anyone else get that feeling?

Anyway, tons of issues with this trailer… Obviously the Pirates music is going to be changed. Only an amateur would put that in at this point. I didn’t like the change of pace. Not only is the path so beaten it’s ridiculous, but it’s also done very unclassy I thought.

I really like Michelle Pfeiffer when she’s not a sappy bitch. She could be interesting in something like this. I think this movie could actually be worth watching, but if there’s one thing this could fall on it’s the running time. If it’s as long as the Pirates movies there’s no way I’m seeing it.

  2. Noticed that the YouTube trailer seems to have disappeared. It’s still up for anyone searching for it. See it here:

  3. This is a fake trailer. I’m not sure if you are all clear on that. Neil Gaiman said in his blog that the trailer is not real.

Do your research, maybe you did but to me it wasn’t clear that you knew this was a fake video. (Even though you probably were WELL aware of that.)

  4. Fake as in fan-made? I was under the impression that it was a “rough cut” or something, but either way it appears to have real footage from the movie which to me makes it worth posting about and not necessarily “fake”. I would still not judge the movie based on this, and I said as much… I’ll wait for the official trailer before I say anything more.

  5. Aaron, i think you’re misunderstanding Gaiman. I don’t think the trailer is ‘fake’ or ‘fan made’, but rather I think that he means it’s not an actual trailer. It clearly features unfinished effects shots. If anything, the last half of the trailer is at least real.
