Will Grindhouse Go NC-17?
With all the recent talk of Steven Spielberg rescuing Transformers from an R-rating, a lot of people seem to be overlooking an even more interesting rating question: what will become of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse? From everything we’ve been hearing about this movie, it sure sounds like it’s going to be more sick, gritty and violent than just about anything that’s ever received a wide theatrical release before. On Page Six of yesterday’s New York Post, they mention a few of the movie’s most outrageous scenes before declaring that “there’s no question it’s headed for an NC-17 without big cuts”.
Keeping in mind the rebellious reputations of both Tarantino and Rodriguez, one has to wonder whether or not they would, in fact, be willing to cut anything from their movies. After all, isn’t sleazy sex and violence kind of the whole point of Grindhouse? Since Tarantino and Rodriguez are such big names, perhaps The Weinstein Company would be brave enough to release the movie with an NC-17 rating… on the other hand, this would automatically disqualify it from playing at the majority of North American theatre chains. I suppose the unrated DVD is a given, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Any predictions?

Will Grindhouse go NC-17? No.
Even if it does have lots of freaky shit in it, it has enough fantasy to make it seem harmless. If the entrail-explosions on the pregnant woman is being caused by a weapon mounted on the stump af leg, it evens itself out.
It’ll just be an R-rated movie. What with all this ratings talk though? Ratings are the new box office.
Posted by Henrik on March 16th, 2007I heard this was the 2 min sequence that takes palace in side Sydeny Poitier’s Ass. I thought that was a bit much 1:45 seconds would have convey the point to me.
