Wachowski Bros Brought In To Fix Up Invasion of the Body Snatchers Remake

Did you know that they are remaking Invasion of the Body Snatchers… again? I can’t say I’m surprised, although I don’t know how I missed this tidbit over the past couple of years. It could be because they changed the name of the film to separate it from the original: the new version is called simply The Invasion and it stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig (I do remember hearing that Kidman was paid almost $17 million for this movie however).

News came out this week (in a rather roundabout way) that the Wachowski Brothers have been recruited to help fix up the ending of the film, which is being directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Das Experiment). Although producer Joel Silver had initially denied such reports, someone from Warner Bros was recently sniffing around at Harvard, where they were inquiring about using a 3 minute computer-generated film called The Inner Life of the Cell, created by David Bolinsky for Harvard’s Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. The short film (which can be seen on YouTube) would potentially be re-rendered at film resolution and incorporated into the movie’s special effects. To me this just sounds like something they’d use in the opening credits like in X-Men or Spider-Man, but what do I know. I do find it funny that Joel Silver always seems to fall back on the Wachowski Brothers though. Either way, they’ve now got me somewhat interested; The Invasion is currently slated to be released on August 17th.
