Hobo With A Shotgun Wins Grindhouse SXSW Fan Trailer Contest
As a special promotional event for the upcoming Tarantino/Rodriguez movie Grindhouse, the SXSW festival put out a call to all independent filmmakers to create their own fake trailers for fictional exploitation films (just like the ones that will appear in the actual Grindhouse film). Well, the deadline came and went, and last week the winners were judged by Robert Rodriguez himself, with the number one trailer turning out to be the Canadian-produced Hobo With A Shotgun! The runners-up were Maiden of Death and The Dead Won’t Die. I don’t know if these filmmakers actually received any sort of reward for their creativity, but there were some pretty amazing entries. Does anyone know if there’s a website that collects all of the submissions? Here’s another of my favourites: Jesus Rises, starring Jesus and his undead apostles.

Posted by Ian on March 15th, 2007If these movies were actually produced I could see them making a really good series. I’m not sure about full features but something along the lines of Masters of Horror. 1-Hour TV episodes all done in a tongue-in-cheek style of action, horror or blaxploitation. It would be great to see what people could come up with. I’ve been impressed by Masters of Horror so far.
