God of War Movie Still a Possibility
With the release of God of War II on the Playstation 2 today, it seems only appropriate to discuss some recent tidbits that have cropped up regarding the long-rumoured God of War feature film. Creator David Jaffe was recently interviewed by Entertainment Weekly and he commented on the status of the movie, revealing that a script has been written by David Self (Thirteen Days, Road to Perdition) and that it was being sent out to a “huge name director”. Also, Jaffe gives his choice for who should play the main character Kratos (not that he would probably have much say in casting) and it turns out to be Djimon Hounsou of Blood Diamond fame.
I have to say that I’d be very surprised if we don’t see a God of War movie within the next couple of years. The franchise is one of Sony’s only saving graces right now in the console war, and after the success of 300, this movie could be attracting a lot more interest. The hyper-violence and mythological basis would make it ripe for a very similar cinematic treatment. Add to this Disney’s supposed plans for the Prince of Persia movie(s), and greenlighting God of War should be a no-brainer. At the very least, it’s another video game that has the potential to make for a kick ass big screen adaptation, don’t you think?

I have no idea what this game is about or anything, but if David Self is writing the movie I am very excited.
I really like Thirteen Days (adapted from real life recordings etc.) and Road to Perdition, which was adapted from a graphic novel, is one of my favourite films, ever made. So he obviously knows how to take source material and make it work dramaticly in a motion picture.
