Test Image of Rorschach from Zack Snyder’s Watchmen

Zack Snyder is quickly learning how to play the fanboys and build hype for his films. He recently pulled a Mel Gibson by hiding a single frame image in an extended trailer for 300 (see the trailer on YouTube here). At approximately 1 minute and 52 seconds in, there is a flash of a still that looks a lot like Rorschach from the Alan Moore graphic novel Watchmen (Snyder’s next project). While this sparked plenty of arguing over whether or not it was real, Harry from Ain’t It Cool News came to the rescue to prove that it was indeed authentic, producing a high-res copy of the image that Snyder had given him directly from his iPod. I suppose there’s not much to say since it’s just a single test image, but at the very least it looks like Watchmen is going to be another highly stylized sepia-toned film in the vein of 300. 1. This looks ridiculous. It looks like the one used in that pathetic fan-scene in YouTube.

In the comic book his mask is made of two fabrics mashed together, with some sort of black liquid in between. It makes it move around when he moves etc, which is a nice excuse for the artist not to be consistent when drawing the character, but also would make for some very interesting film-making. The fact that they are just using a white hood with some black stuff painted on just reinforces what everybody but the stupidest of fanboys realize, it can’t be a movie.

  2. Don’t get your panties in a bunch Henrik its just a test. Finally this fucking movies getting made. Or is it? Greengrass was building sets and everything. And they shut his shit down.
