Attorney Marvin Belli Talks With ‘The Zodiac’

The Zodiac KillerLast week was the release of David Fincher’s much anticipated feature film Zodiac, a detailed retelling of the infamous murders of the late 1960’s. Although the film did run a little long, (with a total running time of 2 hours and 40 minutes) its attention to detail was nothing short of amazing. (You can hear our review of the film on the latest episode of the Film Junk podcast, available here.)Some might say the film sticks to the facts a little TOO closely, but you can’t deny that Fincher has represented the case appropriately where some other more exploitative attempts may have failed. I did enjoy the film, even after taking into consideration its downfalls. I think this is one that might work even better upon a second viewing. Not only that, but the film has sparked my interest in the Zodiac (and Donovan’s album The Hurdy Gurdy Man) and upon some searching on YouTube, I came a cross the original footage of one of the moments recreated in the film. The Zodiac requested to speak with famed attorney Marvin Belli live on Jim Dunbar’s morning talk show. The result was a chilling, yet ultimately fraudulent, interaction with one of the world’s most notorious serial killers. Check out the video below and I’m sure you’ll appreciate how faithful Fincher was in his recreation of this scene.
