We seem to be talking about movies based on toys a lot lately, so why not add another one to the list? Former Marvel CEO Avi Arad and his production company announced this week that they are developing a movie based on everyone’s favourite programmable toy robot: Robosapien! “Robosapien has intrigued me since he was introduced. He has all the right elements to make a family feature film with the ability to touch people on an emotional level,” said Arad.

So let me get this straight… first there’s a Short Circuit remake rumoured to be in the works, then Pixar announces their next movie will be about a self-aware maintenance robot named WALL-E. Now we’ve got a Robosapien movie? I think we’ve got a full-blown robot resurgence on our hands! Robosapien will combine live-action footage and CGI, and is expected to be released sometime in 2009. In the meantime, Arad Productions are currently bringing another toy line to the big screen with Bratz: The Movie, coming this August.
