Jason Lee to Star in Alvin and the Chipmunks Movie

Oh Jason Lee… I sure hope you know what you’re doing. Lee has just signed on to star in the upcoming Alvin and the Chipmunks live action film as their father Dave Seville. Alvin, Simon and Theodore, on the other hand, will appear in the movie as computer-generated characters. Lee seems to be popping up in a lot of family friendly films lately, as he is also voicing the lead role in the Underdog movie. The difference I see is that is that no matter how bad Underdog ends up being, at least his face will never be on screen. It’s easy money, and relatively harmless. However, if Alvin and the Chipmunks bombs, it could definitely have an impact on Lee’s career. And let’s face it, no one looks cool being the sole live actor in a movie whose main characters are computer animated. Just ask Breckin Meyer or Brendan Fraser. Alvin and the Chipmunks is being directed by Tim Hill (Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, Muppets From Space) and is planned for a December 14th release.

  1. I can’t believe I never realized that Jason Lee was in My Name Is Earl. I’ve watched the show, but it never clicked.
