Young Indiana Jones Chronicles Coming to DVD

Now that Indiana Jones 4 is officially slated for release on May 22, 2008, it’s time to start building hype. And what better way for Lucasfilm to build hype, than to dig into the archives and finally release The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on DVD? Fans have been begging for this TV series to be released for years; it originally aired between 1992 and 1996 and starred Corey Carrier as Indy at ages 8 to 10, and Sean Patrick Flanery as a teenage Indy.

I don’t remember being particularly big on the show personally, but I know a lot of people hold it in high regard. George Lucas himself recently revealed that they are in the process of enhancing and restoring the picture for the DVD release. He also added, “We’re spending more to clean things up then we did to shoot it.” The show originally aired in 45 minute installments, but when the series ended Lucas shot extra footage so that he could connect them into 90 minute feature length stories. This is how they will appear on DVD, making for 22 episodes instead of 44. No word yet on an official release date, but it will probably come a few weeks prior to the theatrical release of Indiana Jones 4. Anyone out there looking forward to this?

  1. I wonder if it will have the one where Ford reprised his role as the middle aged (at the time) Indy telling the story about learning to play the trumpet and meeting Al Capone.
