Wonder Woman Movie Will Not Be Set in World War II

Totally bogus news from Joel Silver this week, as he talks about where they are headed with the Wonder Woman feature film now that Joss Whedon left the project. Although they had picked up a spec script that took place during World War II, it seems that they had no intention of actually using that storyline. “We didn’t buy it for that. There were some good ideas in it, but it was out there, and we wanted to just kind of not have it floating around. We wanted just to acquire it and keep it.”

Great, so they bought a cool idea just so they could sit on it and stop anyone else from using it. That pretty much sums up the movie industry lately. I think the World War II angle would have been awesome, but I guess it just sounds too campy and old-fashioned to the boneheads at Warner Bros. The project seems to be stalled at the moment, without any immediate plans to pursue any other writers or directors. At any rate, I guess I will go back to officially not caring about the Wonder Woman movie at all.
