Monday Morning Box Office Report: March 5, 2007

The massive star power of Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy completely overwhelmed everything else at the box office this past weekend, as Wild Hogs kickstarted its theatrical run with a $38 million take. Which can only mean one thing: Wild Hogs 2, coming next year! David Fincher’s Zodiac was a distant second with $13.1 million, and Ghost Rider held strong at #3 with $11.5 million. As expected, Black Snake Moan didn’t attract many viewers, earning just over $4 million in its opening weekend. A limited theatrical run and a clumsy marketing campaign seriously hampered its draw. Stay tuned for our review of Zodiac, coming later on tonight’s podcast!

  1. Wild Hogs makes almost 40 mil? The world is doomed ;)

I didn’t have much interest in Black Snake Moan (thought it was some weird quasi-horror movie)until the other week after seeing the music video of Sam Jackson singing the blues and realized it might be about something different than what I thought. After visiting the official site, I wanted to go see it. Then I found out it wasn’t playing around here. They pretty much shot themselves in the foot with a lousy marketing campaign and shoddy theatrical releases…
