The first Hellboy Animated movie Sword of Storms was just recently released on DVD, but its sequel has apparently been in the works for many months. I’m not sure how they determined the success of the first flick, considering that it didn’t screen in theatres and only aired on the Cartoon Network, but regardless, Hellboy fans should be pleased to hear that another one is on the way. Hellboy Animated: Blood and Iron is based loosely on the Wake the Dead comic series, and will once again feature the voices of Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, and John Hurt. To me these movies are at the same level as Marvel’s animated direct to DVD titles like Ultimate Avengers… they’re slightly above the quality of a Saturday morning cartoon, but not by much. Blood and Iron screened last week at the New York Comic Con, and will be released later this year on TV and DVD.
