First Pics of Michael Myers from Rob Zombie’s Halloween

As production continues on Rob Zombie’s remake of the John Carpenter classic Halloween, Zombie has been posting updates to the film’s official MySpace page. Recently he uploaded some new pics, including a first look at the new Michael Myers (played by Tyler Mane). As expected, it’s pretty close to the original… at least Zombie is being a purist with regards to the look of Myers. However, one of the things I have been a little worried about with this film is the fact that it also features a young Mike Myers, showing how screwed up he was as a kid (which kind of ruins the character if you ask me). So they’ve also posted a picture of the young Michael Myers, as played by… Dakota Fanning? Actually, the kid’s name is Daeg Faerch, but you gotta admit, he looks like a girl with that flowing blonde hair. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m slowly losing the ability to take this remake seriously.

  1. To quote Sean’s comments:

“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m slowly
losing the ability to take this remake
    seriously.”

    To which I say, “SLOWLY?”

Hollywood’s latest trend is disturbing. When will they stop recycling old movies?

Look at the horrid remake of “Psycho”. I mean really, what was the point? Camera shots were identical in many places, the script was exactly the same here and there. About the only notable change (apart from being in color) was the masturbation scene that tore apart a lot of the psychology behind Norman Bates. The movie was a glaring example of why remakes shouldn’t happen.

But here comes “Halloween”, hands-down one of the most influential horror movies ever. It kicked off a whole world of slasher flicks and scream queens. What does Rob Zombie think he can add to the perfection of that film?

From interviews and other news I’ve read, Zombie plans to develop the film as “part prequel, part reimagining”. And if reports are to be believed, there’s a lot of damage to a long-established and long-cherished history to be done.

Michael Myers, as one poster commented on a forum nearby, is unequivocally evil. There is no explanation for it (at least not to casual viewers), and that’s why Myers’ evil is so terrifying. Zombie, according to reports, seeks to explain Myers through (among other things) incest, molestation, animal abuse, and other stereotypical psychotic beginnings.

Part of what makes Myers so perfect is that we don’t understand what drives him. There is no easy answer to his bloodshed. Over the life of the franchise, we finally understand a thing or two about his madness, but never do we explain it away. It remains a mystery, but apparently Zombie seeks to undo the mystery.

    Shame on you, Rob Zombie.

Don’t get me wrong, I personally like Zombie. He’s talented in more than one area, and “Dragula” remains a favorite. His other horror movies were bizarre, but ultimately entertaining enough. But this is not the realm of his own ideas that he has entered. This is the “Halloween” mythos, a world of much-debated lineage and tradition.

Step carefully, Zombie–us “Halloween” fans are rabid, and we do tend to bite. Just look at the potential fiasco of a “Pinhead Vs. Michael Myers” that was once seriously considered. The fans spoke out in large numbers–NO. Purity of our favorite serial killer is not to be tampered with lightly. One glaring error anywhere, and you’ll catch hell over it for years to come.

Of course, it’s too late now to stop it. Filming wrapped the other day, from what I hear, so now it’s a wait until October to see what becomes of our beloved franchise. The first weekend will tell, and Mr. Zombie, I wish you the best of luck.

With Myers fans, you’ll certainly need it.

  2. Give Rob Zombie a break. He’s a man – not a god. As a former journalist, your point is well taken. As a die hard Zombie fan, your comments were far from being classy in my eyes. His movie can in NO WAY be any more TACKY than the Halloween in which the exploding masks surfaced. Open your mind and let true fans enjoy what they want without filling their minds of what some people would call….GARBAGE. Thanks.

  3. One last thought – I must agree that Faerch does indeed look like Dakota Fanning with a little streak of evil mixed in! HA!

  4. Did you people even go see the movie? I went to see it last night, i thought it was the best Halloween yet, see the movie before you bit*h about it.

  5. it was the best halloween movie by far!rob zombie did perfect that movie! keep it up rob! redo them all!
