It was like an audio commentary, and there were definitely some silent stretches. That said, I know we probably didn't get to absorb as much of the show as we would have liked, especially once we had people calling in and talking on-air.

Unfortunately we didn't record the live Oscar talkcast so it won't be available online after the fact. It was just a one time thing.

Well... I don't necessarily think biopics are easier as a general rule (perhaps our discussion came out that way), I just think they tend to win Oscars more frequently which I don't really think is fair. But she did a good job in The Queen, I just didn't think that movie deserved to be nominated for Best Picture.

listened to the new podcast - tsk tsk tsk on the 'biopics are easier' - i think its hard to do such roles without being accused of just doing an impression. i'd grant Jim Carrey for example as an extended impression, and i dont think overall it hurt the film. however to imply through the whole thing that Mirrens performance is lesser because she's in a biopic is ludicrous. for one, of all the nominees she's actually the starring role of her film rather than another characters second as is normally the case, but that movie put heart and depth into a person that i actually dont care for in real life. the scene alone where she does that turn to the elk in the middle of the field to me was THE SCENE of 2006. you cant paint all biopic roles with that same brush, and besides, depending on the source material 'original' performances can be completely mapped out too you know. like from a novel that goes so far in depth to the characters inner monologues and ambitions that its just as much if not more so of a blue print to a character.
