Trailer for The Condemned Starring Stone Cold Steve Austin

Alright now this post is for Greg, the only person I know who will actually see the following movie. Wrestlers make great stuntmen and not such great actors, but that hasn’t stopped World Wrestling Entertainment from bankrolling a bunch of their own action films starring pro wrestlers like The Rock, Cane and John Cena. I suppose it’s about time Stone Cold Steve Austin got in on the deal too (wait… this guy is still around?), and now he will star in the upcoming film The Condemned.

The movie is about a convict on death row (Austin) who is sold off to a TV producer to participate in a reality TV show where contestants battle to the death on a remote island. Well, I liked it the first time around when it was called The Running Man. It’s too bad they couldn’t get the rights to call it Smash TV and base it on the video game… then maybe I would have been interested! The movie co-stars British footballer Vinnie Jones and is directed by Scott Wiper (A Better Way To Die). I guess as long as they can keep the budgets down, they’re going to make their money back on these projects. I don’t have a problem with that, I just wish they were going direct to video instead of taking up valuable theatre space! The Condemned hits theatres on April 27th; you can watch the trailer now on MySpace via the link below.

  1. i have to be honest. if this gets even past a 40% critics rating, i will spend the money to watch this, most likely via rental.

i’ve seen Steve Austin act on actual television programming, and the truth is he’s actually very watchable, and very easy to take seriously. there actually is more going on with that guy than just your average lunkheaded macho shit. i imagine he could really chew on one liners if fed them.

the non-Rock wwe associated movies are all obviously complete shit, but from what i understand they’ve put all their effort into this one knowing the plot has more pull, even if done before. so yeah, as far as dumb action movies go, i’m looking forward more to this one than most others that come along.

at the very least, this story will be a good primer to see how an american remake of Battle Royale could look like.
