Aaron Eckhart To Play Two Face in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (Updated)

After months of speculation, it looks like we may finally have confirmation of who will play Harvey Dent/Two Face in Christopher Nolan’s next Batman film, The Dark Knight. According to various sources, it’s won’t be Ethan Hawke, Guy Pearce, Ryan Phillippe or Jake Gyllenhaal (just to name a few of the rumours), but rather Aaron Eckhart, recently noted for his role in last year’s Thank You For Smoking (I also enjoyed his performance in The Black Dahlia). Eckhart has not yet officially signed on, but is reportedly in “final negotiations” for the role (and if you remember when Heath Ledger was first announced as The Joker, it was basically the same deal). So assuming that Eckhart is indeed a lock, I have to say that he’s probably the best choice out of all the rumours we’ve heard. He should be able to bring a little bit of believability to the character that Tommy Lee Jones played in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever. The only thing I have to wonder at this point is, do we really need a Two Face in this film? We already have The Joker, and shouldn’t he be the focus of the story? I think this could be another comic book movie in danger of trying to cram in too many characters at once. What are your thoughts on how The Dark Knight his shaping up?

Update: This is now confirmed, and no longer just a rumour, as Dave from FilmRot/Eclectic Gamer has pointed out.

  1. Sean,

The “various sources” should all lead back to this one:

    http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117959570.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

which says Eckhart IS playing Two-Face, not in final negotiations. You can take the “?” out of this post’s title. ;)

  2. Thanks Dave.

  3. hey Sean

no worries about having too many villains. The rumor going around is that Eckhart is only playing D.A. Harvey Dent in “The Dark Knight”. He will be an ally to Bruce Wayne/Batman and Jim Gordon against the Joker.

And will only become “Two-Face” in the following sequel.

  4. Not a problem, Sean, and thanks for the link.
