Second Teaser Trailer for Seinfeld’s Bee Movie
With all the generic CGI films that have been coming out lately, it’s pretty hard to get excited about yet another movie starring an animated insect. And yet, the involvement of Jerry Seinfeld in the upcoming Bee Movie is a unique enough element to capture my attention. As his first major project since Seinfeld, he is co-writing the film and voicing the main character. The first teaser trailer featured Seinfeld himself dressed up in a bee costume and it was pretty damn brilliant if you ask me (although perhaps a tad misleading).
Now a second teaser trailer for Bee Movie has just gone online and it’s essentially more of the same, although this time they end up revealing the true nature of the film as well. It also features an appearance from Steven Spielberg. Bee Movie is being directed by Steve Hickner (The Prince of Egypt) and Simon J. Smith (Shrek 4-D), which doesn’t necessarily indicate that it will be anything new or different, but looking at the synopsis for the film made me realize that maybe, just maybe, this will be a true gem. Essentially, it’s about a college graduate bee who becomes disillusioned with his limited career choices (making honey), but after meeting a florist in New York City he discovers humans are mass consumers of honey and decides to sue the human race. That’s somewhat original, no? When you consider that Seinfeld is one of the masters of observational humour, I think he can improve on that special brand of insightful comedy that Pixar have always praised for in their films. I must be one of the few people on the planet that wasn’t a huge fan of Seinfeld but I must say that this trailer had me giggling. And wow, Spielberg is a bad actor. Thank goodness he sticks to behind the camera work.
