Adrien Brody to Play The Hulk?

It just wouldn’t be a good week here at Film Junk without at least one comic book movie casting rumour to dissect, and this time around there’s a juicy story gaining momentum around the web concerning the upcoming Incredible Hulk movie (ie. the sequel/franchise reboot being directed by Louis Leterrier). An anonymous first-time scooper over at Ain’t It Cool News has set people off with the word that apparently Adrien Brody has been cast as Bruce Banner.

Although it’s just a silly rumour right now, allow me to share my thoughts on this possible choice. I like it a lot more than the early reports of Prison Break’s Dominic Purcell, and it could really play up the angle that Banner is a skinny defenseless nerd. However… sometimes I feel like they’re overcasting these comic book characters when they choose Oscar winners to play them (I felt the same way about Heath Ledger as The Joker). Adrien Brody is a great actor, but do I really want Bruce Banner to have that much depth and complexity? I don’t know. I guess I would probably be complaining about the opposite with Dominic Purcell so it’s a no-win situation. Ultimately I don’t care much about this movie to begin with, but what do you think?
