Universal to Release 100 HD-DVD Titles in 2007

Last week I posted about how Blu-ray was starting to gain a foothold in the high-def market with some major releases coming in the first half of 2007. Well now Universal, the only major studio still supporting HD-DVD exclusively, has countered these announcements with some upcoming releases of their own… a whopping 100 of them to be exact. While they did not give a complete list, they did reveal some pretty stellar films, including day and date releases of Children of Men, The Good Shepherd and Smokin’ Aces, plus catalog titles that include: Scarface, The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Bruce Almighty, The Bourne Identity, Meet the Fockers, American Pie, Inside Man, Pride & Prejudice, The Big Lebowski, Liar, Liar, Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Brazil, Erin Brockovich, Shaun of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Slap Shot and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Okay, as an HD-DVD consumer, now I feel a bit better. And for all you fanboys out there, you now have no choice but to go the HD-DVD route… Battlestar Galactica: The Complete First Season will be out before the end of the year! Universal will continue to release the vast majority of these titles as DVD/HD-DVD Combo packages. And still no end to this war in sight!
