German filmmaker Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) is back with his newest fictional film this March: Rescue Dawn starring Christian Bale, Steve Zahn and Jeremy Davies. Being the big Herzog supporters that we are here at Film Junk, we’ve mentioned the film a bunch of times before. Well now you can get your first good look at the movie over at Apple where the full U.S. trailer has gone online. The movie is based on Herzog’s 1997 documentary Little Dieter Needs to Fly, about Dieter Dengler, a German immigrant turned American fighter pilot who was shot down over Vietnam and taken prisoner, before eventually staging a miraculous escape. The documentary featured interviews and re-enactments with Dengler, but in this fictionalized retelling of the story, Dengler is played by Christian Bale (he’s getting pretty good at the emaciated look).
