Trailer for King of California Starring Michael Douglas
Good ol’ Michael Douglas. You know, there’s a time when I would have said that he took himself too seriously and that he needed to start doing more comedies, but lately, it seems like that’s all he’s been doing (well, I suppose The Sentinel wasn’t all that funny). At any rate, his latest movie King of California looks like one of those quirky comedies that gets you Oscar nominations. You know the type. Douglas plays a middle-aged father who is released from a mental institution and tries to convince his daughter (played by Evan Rachel Wood) that there is Spanish gold buried under a local chain store. This totally reminded me of a patented Jack Nicholson role like As Good As It Gets or About Schmidt, and it turns out the movie is produced by About Schmidt director Alexander Payne. It is, however, written and directed by a rookie named Mike Cahill. The Flaming Lips song in the trailer is a nice touch, adding to its existential quality. You know what, this is a movie I’d really like to see. The release date is still TBD, but you can check out the trailer now via the link below.
