On a somewhat related note to the previous post… has anyone out there seen the new French-Canadian version of The Office? I caught an episode of La Job on SRC last night, and it was like stepping into an alternate dimension. Believe it or not, this is actually the second adaptation of the show to be done in French (the first was Le Bureau on Canal+), but I think La Job follows the original BBC show a lot more closely. So closely, in fact, that I could pick out characters just by their mannerisms, and everything that happened in the episode seemed exactly the same (apparently the British scripts were just directly translated to French). Interesting to note: the boss in this version is named David Gervais, and Finchy is named “Rocky”. I’ve been trying to find some video clips online to show just how strange it is to see the French counterparts to these characters, but I could only find some stuff from Le Bureau on YouTube. La Job’s official site is always updated with a clip from the latest episode however (plus it has an interview with Ricky Gervais himself). La Job airs on SRC in Canada on Thursday nights at 9 pm.
