Trailer for Smiley Face Starring Anna Faris
While all the cool people of the world are in Utah this week checking out the latest indie flicks at Sundance, the rest of us are stuck trying to soak up a bit of the vibe via the internet. One Sundance movie that a lot of people seem to be talking about is Smiley Face, starring Anna Faris, John Krasinski, Adam Brody and John Cho. Basically it looks like Half-Baked but with indie cred; Faris plays a young actress who accidentally eats her roommate’s magic brownies and embarks on a surreal day long adventure.
Since it co-stars John Cho, you might think there’s a connection between this movie and Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle, but no, it’s actually directed by Gregg Araki (Mysterious Skin, The Doom Generation). The presence of John Krasinski (The Office) and Adam Brody (The O.C.) is sure to bring in the hipster crowd, and while there’s not much here to distinguish it from other stoner comedies, somehow I think it could be fun. I’m just not sure if we’re supposed to like it ironically or for real. Check out the trailer for Smiley Face now on YouTube (linked below).

Oh man. Araki is a bit of a madman. “Doom Generation” sort of traumatized me in highschool. I’ve blocked out a vague scene of a rape with the Eiffel tower? Yeah…could be wrong on that one…just seems vaguely familiar.
To boot, “Mysterious Skin” was equally disturbing in it’s own sadistic way. Yeah, he’s a crazy man that Araki. Still, I’m always interested in what he’s going to do next…
Posted by Marina on January 23rd, 2007I’m a huge Gregg Araki fan, but this seems a tad bit unbearable for me.
Posted by Jason on January 25th, 2007This looks a little Dude Where’s My Carish, and I already hate the fact that Adam Brodie has dreds and tattoos.
